Q-C sports success also talk of the nation in 2015 - Quad-Cities Online

Yet, despite a rare bid at pro golf's Grand Slam, the 21-year-old phenom kept his promise to play the John Deere Classic the week before the British Open. The talk of the Tour also delivered more thrills at TPC Deere Run, rallying from a four-shot deficit in the final six holes of regulation in Silvis, before outlasting journeyman Tom Gillis on the second hole of a two-man playoff. Spieth scored his first pro victory in a three-man JDC playoff in 2013, becoming the Tour's first teenage winner since 1931. Another piece of history barely eluded Spieth, though. Spieth's success, coupled with a Pro-Am appearance by Hollywood legend Bill Murray, helped make 2015 the most successful year at the gate and charity coffers in JDC history. Keys proceeded to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and also scored career-best finishes at the other majors -- reaching the third-round of the French Open, and the fourth round at the U. S Open to rise to a ranking as high as No. 16 in the world. `Chasson' pro success: Between Rock Island's Chasson Randle, Moline's Aisha Praught, Clinton's David Johnson and Bettendorf's Robbie Lawler, local prep products also helped put the Quad-Cities in the national conversation.
